Boxelders
Boxelders are harmless home invaders but can be a nuisance if they decide to enter your home. They have flat, elongated-oval bodies, that are dark brown to black in color with red lines. Adult boxelders have wings and get up to 1/2’’ in size. These pests are nontoxic but can put off a strong, unpleasant odor if tampered with. They primarily feed off the seeds of boxelder and maple trees and lay their eggs in the cracks and crevices of the bark. When temperatures start to drop at night in late August and early September, they seek shelter to get out of the cold. These home invaders find tiny openings around your home, such as cracks in your siding, gaps in your eaves, or crevices in your trim to hibernate.
