Mosquitos
MosquitoMosquitos are one of those pests that can put a damper on enjoying your yard or deck. These 1/4-3/8’’ flying insects are mostly gray with various colors on their bodies and scales. They have white to silver coloring on their slender abdomens with bronze, green or blue scales. Mosquitos have long, hairy legs and a long nose known as a proboscis. Female mosquitos will bite mammals and use the proteins from blood to develop their eggs. Male mosquitos will feed on juices from plants and nectar. Their bites can cause itchiness, swelling and irritation to the skin. Mosquitos are more of a nuisance than anything else, however they can carry diseases. Females can lay up to 300 eggs at once on a water surface. This is where the larvae and pupae will live until they become adults. Since mosquitos reproduce quickly, Critter Ridders recommends doing our Mosquito & Tick Program and getting treatments done every 18-24 days.

  • Are mosquitos hazardous to humans?
Yes, to some degree. Not every single mosquito carries a disease, but their bites could be very displeasing. They can carry germs that could potentially make you or your family sick. The most common diseases carried by mosquitos are West Nile virus, malaria, dengue, and yellow fever. If you believe to have been bitten by a mosquito carrying a pathogen, please consult with a health care professional.
