Spiders
SpiderThere are literally hundreds of different species of spiders. They come in many different sizes & colors with 2 body segments (head & thorax and abdomen) connected with a tiny waist. These 8-legged pests are a nuisance –more because of the webs than the spider itself. Spiders will build their webs near light sources, which attracts their prey (insects and other arthropods). The webs are often found on the outside of homes or businesses but can also be found in basements, garages, around window frames, or any other area where food is available. Most of these predators are nocturnal and can lay several to hundreds of eggs daily. They lay their eggs in a silky sac that can be off white to brown in color. The eggs range in size per species and can be round or flat shaped.

  • Are spiders hazardous to humans?
Poisonous spiders are not native to New York and are very rare in the area. Many spiders cannot penetrate human skin with their fangs. If you are bit by a spider, it can cause irritation from the venom, turning your skin red, swollen, and even painful. Spiders can also cause some psychological issues such as arachnophobia (fear of spiders or other arachnids).  Please consult a doctor or mental health clinician if needed.
