Targeted Pests:

Critter Ridders recommends our Bee, Ant, & Spider Exterior Prevention or Bee Prevention Program in the spring to help prevent carpenter bees from causing damage to your home or business. Although our prevention service is very effective, carpenter bees may still find areas to drill holes on your home or other wood structures.

Details about Service:

  • This service is not always an instant kill. YOU MAY STILL SEE carpenter bees hovering and/or trying to find areas to build their nests. Male carpenter bees that are outside of the nest during treatment – will come back to their nest and pick up the pesticide dust to kill them off. If still active after 10 days, please call us for a re-service.
  • Our Technicians will use a duster, a device that spreads the insecticide, to treat all existing carpenter bee holes that are present. Most of the time our Technicians can treat these holes from the ground or deck. In some cases, they may need to use a ladder to access the holes.
  • This service DOES NOT include filling in holes or repairing damage caused by carpenter bees.

Frequently Asked Questions:

  • Do I need to be home?

    • If there are specific holes or areas you are concerned with that cannot be properly labeled or are hard to locate then someone must be home. Blue painters’ tape is always helpful for locating areas of concern. If the area is too high to label leave painters’ tape below it so the Technician can properly locate the problem.
    • If you want to add a carpenter bee trap to service and want to pick out where the trap will be mounted, then you must be home. If you do not care where the carpenter bee trap is placed, then no one will need to be home (this is the discretion of the Technician).
  • When should I repair the damaged areas on my home or business?

The best time to fill in carpenter bee hole damage is in the fall, usually September. DO NOT fill in the holes during the summer as there could be eggs/larvae within the holes that are not visible. Carpenter bees have a single entrance to their nest with many adjacent tunnels within the wood. As they tunnel through the wood, they will discard bits of the wood to make room for their eggs. The discarded wood is a sawdust like material and is also used to make partitions between eggs within the nest. If you try to fill or caulk the areas before the nest is completely dead then the newly hatched carpenter bees or carpenter bees outside of the nest will burrow new holes and tunnels, causing more damage.
